Real English 26: Connecting Ideas Naturally

Connecting Ideas Naturally ເຊື່ອມຄວາມຄິດເຂົ້າກັນ

1. Pattern Discovery

When English speakers share their thoughts (ຄວາມຄິດເຫັນ), they do not usually speak one short sentence at a time. They connect ideas together:

Idea → Reason → Result → Example

Instead of:

❌ I like English.
❌ English is important.
❌ I study every day.

Native speakers naturally connect:

✅ I like English because it helps me communicate.
✅ English is important, so I study every day.

Pattern A (I think + idea + because + reason)
  • I think English is important because it helps me communicate.
  • I think this book is useful because it teaches real patterns.
Pattern B (I want to + action + so + result)
  • I want to improve my English, so I practice every day.
  • I want to get a better job, so I learn new skills.
Pattern C (I like + thing + because + reason)
  • I like learning English because it opens new opportunities.
  • I like this method because it is simple and practical.
Pattern D (I used to + past, but now + present)
  • I used to study only grammar, but now I practice speaking.
  • I used to be shy, but now I speak more confidently.
Pattern Insight:

English becomes more natural when you connect your ideas instead of creating separate sentences.

Connectors (ຄຳເຊື່ອມ)

because — ເພາະວ່າ

so — ດັ່ງນັ້ນ

but — ແຕ່

and — ແລະ

also — ນອກຈາກນັ້ນ

for example — ຕົວຢ່າງເຊັ່ນ

3. Pattern Build

Step 1 — Complete

I think __________ because __________.

I want to __________, so __________.

I like __________ because __________.

I used to __________, but now __________.

Step 2 — Make your own sentences

Write five sentences by connecting your ideas.

1 …………………………………………………………………..

2 …………………………………………………………………..

3 …………………………………………………………………..

4 ………………………………………………………………….

5 ………………………………………………………………….

4. Pattern Expansion

Level 1:

I learn English.

Level 2:

I learn English because it is useful.

Level 3:

I learn English because it is useful for my work.

Level 4:

I learn English because it is useful for my work, and it helps me communicate with more people.

Now you try:

I like __________________.

I like __________________ because __________________.

I like __________________ because __________________, and __________________.

5. Pattern Evolution

Simple idea

I study English.

Add reason

I study English because I need it for work.

Add result

I study English because I need it for work, so I practice every day.

Add personal meaning

I study English because I need it for work, so I practice every day and become more confident.

Key Insight

A longer sentence is not a new sentence.  It is the same pattern with more connected ideas.

6. Natural English

Native speakers often connect words together when speaking.

“I want to” often sounds like:

“I wanna” (informal speech)

“I am going to” often sounds like:

“I’m gonna” (informal speech)

Example:

I want to learn English.

→ I wanna learn English.

(Used in speaking, not formal writing.)

7. Real Conversation

Situation 1 — Talking About Learning English

A: Why are you learning English?

B: I’m learning English because it helps me communicate with more people.

Situation 2 — Talking About Goals

A: Why do you practice every day?

B: I practice every day because I want to improve my speaking, so I can communicate more confidently.

(Read both conversations aloud three times.)

8. Speaking Challenge

🎤 Speak for one minute.

Talk about one topic:

Why do you want to learn English?

Use:

  • I think…
  • because…
  • so…
  • but…
  • for example…

Try to connect at least five ideas.

9. Pattern Reflection

Before moving to Lesson 27, ask yourself:

☐ Can I connect two ideas together?

☐ Can I explain my reason?

☐ Can I make longer sentences naturally?

☐ Can I use because, so, and but?

☐ Am I building ideas instead of translating?

🌱 Key Lesson Insight

English speakers do not create longer conversations by memorizing more sentences. They connect simple patterns together.

When you learn how to connect ideas, your English becomes clearer, longer, and more natural.
